lWhat is a graphite electrode?
Graphite electrode is a kind of conductive electrode used in steel furnaces, through the electrode and the charge or electrode between the electric arc smelting scrap steel, similar to the lightning effect.
The main raw materials of graphite electrode production are petroleum coke and needle coke, coal tar pitch as binder; it is made by calcination, stirring, pressing, roasting, impregnation, graphitization and machining.
The graphite electrode has low resistivity and can withstand high temperatures in the EAF because the melting point of graphite is around 3900°C, the melting point of scrap steel is 1700°C, and the temperature in the EAF is above 3000°C. Graphite electrode is mainly used for steelmaking, but also smelting yellow phosphorus, industrial silicon, abrasive, etc.
Graphite electrode model specifications
1) RP ordinary graphite electrode, which allows the current density to be lower than 17A/cm2, mainly used for smelting ordinary steel, silicon and yellow phosphorus
2) HP high-power graphite electrode, which allows the current density to pass between 18 and 25A/cm2, is mainly used in steel making.
3) UHP ultra-high power graphite electrode, which allows the current density to be greater than 25A/cm2, is mainly used for smelting fine steel, special steel.
Graphite electrode specifications from 200 ~ 700 mm diameter of the cylinder shape, usually the diameter of the graphite electrode is rounded like the 300 mm, 350 mm, 400 mm, 450 mm, 500 mm, 550 mm, 600 mm, 650 mm, 700 mm;
the length of graphite electrode is 1800~3000mm.
lUHP graphite electrode is used for the recycling of steel in the electric arc furnace industry. Its main ingredient is high-value needle coke which is made from either petroleum or coal tar. Graphite electrodes are finished with a cylinder shape and machined with threaded areas at each end. In this way, the graphite electrodes can be assembled into an electrode column using.
1. When loading the charge into the electric furnace, in order to reduce the impact on the electrode when the charge collapses. The big bulk material should be placed near the central bottom of the electric furnace. At the same time, be careful not to use a large amount of non-conductive objects such as lime to accumulate directly under the electrode which affects the power supplying or breaking the electrode.
2. Should pay attention to the position of the furnace cover. If the furnace cover deviates, the electrode rubs against the furnace cover. It will result in electrode damage and scraping when the electrode rises or falls.
3. When connecting the electrodes, first blow the dust in the nipple hole with compressed air, then align it with the center, and slowly screw it in vertically. The forceused when screwing the nipple into the electrode hole should be smooth and average and the tightening torque should comply with the regulations.
